Vidago Palace Golf Course
Play championship golf within the elegant grounds of Vidago Palace, where historic parkland meets refined Portuguese luxury.
A par-72 course with strategic bunkers, sweeping greens and a clubhouse set inside a beautifully restored 19th-century building.
Overview
Vidago Palace Golf Course is an 18-hole championship course within the grounds of Vidago Palace Hotel. Mackenzie Ross designed the original nine-hole course, which opened in 1936. Cameron & Powell rebuilt and extended the layout between 2006 and 2010, creating the present 18-hole course while retaining its established character.
Course Details
The course plays to par 72 and measures 6,308 metres from the white tees. Alternative distances are 5,903 metres from the yellow tees, 5,454 metres from the blue tees and 4,797 metres from the red tees.
The layout comprises ten par-four holes, four par-five holes and four par-three holes.
Course Highlights
Large, undulating greens and strategically positioned bunkers shape the principal challenge. The design avoids forced carries between tees and fairways, giving less experienced golfers a more accessible route into play. Relatively few areas create a high risk of losing balls, while the greens and bunkering provide a stronger test for established players.
Practice Facilities
The practice area includes a driving range extending beyond 300 metres and a dedicated pitching area. Driving-range tokens provide 48 balls. Golf lessons are available for adults and children, while rental equipment includes golf bags, buggies and trolleys.
Clubhouse & Facilities
The Club House was designed by Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza Vieira. Its contemporary interior occupies a historic stone building dating from 1886, formerly used for bottling Vidago mineral water.
Facilities include a restaurant, bar, pro shop, changing rooms and meeting room. The restaurant and bar provide an informal setting for food, drinks and time between rounds.
Location
The course lies within the Vidago Palace estate in Vidago, close to Chaves in northern Portugal. Mature woodland and established parkland surround the hotel, golf course and supporting facilities. The Club House stands a short distance from the main palace building.
