Empordà Dunes

Overview

Empordà Dunes is a Robert von Hagge design shaped by the open terrain of the Costa Brava. The course combines links-inspired features with the character of the Empordà countryside, using dunes, water and carefully positioned bunkers to create a strategic test.

The project began in 1989, when local golf enthusiasts acquired 125 hectares of land for its development. The first nine holes opened less than two years later, establishing the foundations of the present course.

Course Details

The layout features wide, fast and gently undulating greens, supported by testing rough and strategically placed hazards. Open terrain leaves the course exposed to changing wind conditions, adding further consideration to club selection and shot direction.

Lakes and dunes shape the playing lines, while the absence of trees across much of the course gives the layout its links-style appearance. Accuracy, distance control and considered course management remain important throughout the round.

Course Highlights

The par-five eighth is a defining hole. Its length places pressure on each stage of play, while a bunker protects the right side of the green. Wind conditions add further difficulty to the approach.

The course’s tournament history includes DP World Tour events, the Santander Golf Tour and the Spanish Mid-Amateur Championship. Empordà Dunes has also welcomed several other professional competitions.

Practice Facilities

Practice facilities include a driving range, putting greens and a dedicated short-game area. These spaces support warm-up sessions before a round and focused work across different parts of the game.

Clubhouse & Facilities

The modern clubhouse provides panoramic views across the golf courses and surrounding countryside. A professional shop stocks golf clothing and equipment.

An on-site restaurant and terrace bar provide space for drinks and dining after a round. Hotel Terraverda offers accommodation close to the first tee.

Empordà Dunes forms part of Empordà Golf Resort on the Costa Brava. The course lies a few kilometres from Girona, surrounded by the open countryside of the Empordà region.
